No trip to Rio is complete without a visit to the Gilson Martins shop in Ipanema. The colors are often a little brighter than I would normally wear, but something about being in Brasil makes me want step outside of the norm a bit.
I realize I am much more of a listener than a talker. It may seem odd to people that I can take a two-month trip around Brazil and when I get back and am asked "How was your trip" I will respond with "Good! It was really good." and leave it at that. It is not that I have had a disappointing time or that I was involved in some top-secret government plot...it’s just I'm not the best storyteller....well verbally, at least. I don't always have a lot to say, but I do often have things I want to share ... and things I want to remember. That's where this blog comes in. It is a place to collect my thoughts and experiences as I work my way around the globe. Even if I am the only one who ever reads this blog and it reminds me of the "good times" when I'm old and gray, then it will have served its purpose. And if it manages to satisfy the curiosity of my friends and family who genuinely want to know how my trip was and are not satisfied with my "short & sweet" responses, then that's icing on the cake. In the future, I plan to add to this blog while I'm on the road to wherever my passport takes me...but at least for now the initial postings will be retrospective from my summer 2009 adventures in the UAE, Oman, Djibouti and Germany. And who knows. In the process of blogging, perhaps I'll become a better writer. And if I'm lucky, a better storyteller. But if those things don’t happen, well at least I'll have something written here for my old and gray years.
